Dear Reader,
The topic that I decided to do research on for Science Fiction is Blurred boundaries (Robots and humans). I chose to focus on this is because you often hear, or often hear people talk about how robots will be created to give us easier lives. Also it's often, even on the internet that you see the improvement of the creation of robots. I love looking at the possibilities of what robots will bring us.
When I first started my research I knew some things about robots, but really not that much. I knew that robot are machines that are created to hopefully help make our live easier. To let us worry about the more important things of our lives, while they take care of the jobs that humans prefer to not bother with. Also I know that there was ways that a robot can turn against you.
With my research there were questions that my group and I asked. For example, Where is the line drawn between human's and robots? How do we see Robot's? How do we see Human's? Is it possible that robots can feel human emotions or pain? If so, should we then have Robots be treated as an equal to humanity? With this I have created an article, well more of a poster of a person who is half human and half robot. Also A poem talking about the way a robot and human body works.
The resources that I used for my research were small stories (I have no mouth but I must scream), Twilight Episodes (The lonely, Uncle Simon, I sing the body Electric), and a movie (I,ROBOT).
With these things my group and I learnt that many good or bad things could happen. With most of my resources, they show that technology will turn against you. Like taking over mankind and being prisoners to robots (I have no mouth but I must scream), Illusions of something being human when it's not (The lonely), That something can be made to continue one's torture (Uncle Simon), and to have something that you think that will keep you safe, but ends up to turn against you in the end (I,ROBOT). Along with this we created a recipe of how to make a bad robot. But some good things that can happen is that something can be so real that it can give you the comfort and love that you need (I Sing the body Electric). Also that one robot may be different from many others but it might be the most important to make a big difference for the better (I,ROBOT).
Finally, with the research that I've done I believe that I have opened peoples minds to think deeper of how we should think of our future. Of how we should treat our future technology. With this I have been able to share my ideas and theories of what could happen. How we should treat thinks that can express human emotions be treated equally. It made me really think how we should program or how much information we should give. But I have a question for you. In our future where do you think we should cut the line for robots?
Sincerely,
Emily R. Holmes
